The chocolate Snail
It is a universal fact that chocolate makes the world go round! Having been prepared to sacrifice my waistline in the quest for veracity I have tasked myself to prove this fact in a number of countries and have come to the sad conclusion that some places just aren’t up to scratch.
Having said that, I can honestly say that Monggo Chocolate in Yogyakarta is pretty good and well worth a visit. The chocolate is made from cocoa beans sourced from the Indonesian islands of Java, Sumatra and Sulawesi and is blended by a Belgian Chocolatier. As you can imagine it is smooth and rich. There are a couple of questionable (at least in my opinion) combinations, like durian; however this can be easily overlooked with the ginger or mango.
Of cause the Snail had to visit the factory where many of the processes, including packaging, are done by hand and a taste test was in order. If you are fortunate enough to visit look for the Snails comments in the visitor’s book. If for some strange reason chocolate is not your thing, don’t despair the shop is located in the silver district.
